The Palo Alto Dog Owners’ group represents several hundred Palo Alto residents advocating for more space to safely exercise and play with their dogs off-leash. Citing the community benefits of fenced areas where dogs and their owners can safely socialize in their own neighborhoods, the Dog Owners’ group wants to increase the size and number of dedicated, fenced dog parks throughout the city to improve walkability and connections among neighbors and reduce illegal, off-leash dog recreation.
For the past several years, they have worked closely with the City to develop off-leash dog options and policies in Parks and Recreation Master Plan that minimize use conflicts and balance community interests in Palo Alto parks.
City Council will consider the Parks and Recreation Master Plan this summer.
